The Pumkin Dash proceeds benefit the Eric Elias Foundation

"When through one man a little more love and goodness, a little more light and truth come into the world then that man's life has had meaning."

Eric grew up in Des Plaines a suburb of Chicago. He attended Orchard Place Elementary School, Iroquois Jr. High School and Maine East High School. He participated in sports, extracurricluar activities and made hundreds of friends.

Upon graduating from Maine East he was accepted and attended the University of Northern Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and was immediately employed by the Sears Roebuck Company. As an employee he moved through the ranks and became a very respected systems analysist.

Erics life sounds like a normal full life that many of us live but it was different. Eric suffered from a form of Muscular Dystrophy. The form of MD was Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD also known as pseudohypertrophic) and is the most deadly out of more than 40 neuromuscular diseases that are currently known.

Eric lost many of his close friends in high school to the disease but it never broke his spirit. He lived many more years than any doctor had diagnosed because of his love for life.

The Eric Elias Foundation was created by friends and family who he touched and they wanted his love of life never to be forgotten.

The foundation was established not for reseach purposes, but for expenses that often come up but cannot be met by the families, in order to enhance and enrich the lives of people with muscular dystrophy.
